I first met Mark Lewis at Faeriecon 2007 in Philadelphia. I was instantly taken by his smile, charm, energy and passion for life. The following year, a then 7yr old Katie attended her first Faeriecon and received her introduction to Mark. She was fascinated by this wonderful man who took the time to talk to her as an equal. She listened, enraptured by his voice and his words, more intently than I have ever seen her do. Mark encouraged, engaged, educated and entertained her, us, all at once. We were smitten. When we attended the subsequent years, she would ask if Mark was going to be there and always wanted to seek him out to say "Hello". Each time, she was thrilled when he would recognize her. He always took the time to talk to her at length. Every time we would encounter him throughout the weekend, Mark always had the biggest smile for her. Would always interact with her. She told me many times that she wanted to be as skilled with language as Mark was. We did not know Mark well. We certainly did not know him for anywhere close to long enough. We are both truly blessed to have shared those moments with him. We loved him. Tonight, the world is darker, it is less magical. It is just less because one of the most inspiring people it was ever my privilege to meet is no longer walking along side us.
